We are so grateful to have this digital space to engage with all of you! That with just a few swipes, we can connect thoughtfully and meaningfully. But we realized recently that the ways in which we offer you to invest in our community was not as phone-friendly. So now, folx can invest not just via credit card, but also PayPal or Apple Pay. As a member of our online community, we know how invested you are in advocating for survivors and ending domestic violence. So we wanted to share an opportunity we have in October for you to learn more about what domestic violence looks like, what societal and personal factors contribute to it, and how you can support those going through cycles of harm. This 20 hour training will begin with DV101 on Saturday October 14th, and then continuing Advocacy Trainings twice a week from October 16th - November 15th. As we head into what is for many the busiest time of year, we wanted you to save the date for our Dine Out at @mioposto Ravenna on Tuesday December 5! We are so happy to work with a restaurant partner who values investing in community through shared meals. On the 5th, 20% of all dine in *and* take out orders will go to New Beginnings, so mark your calendars and prepare to eat delicious food! (We may already be deliberating over which pizza we want to order to accompany our roasted beet salad.) Thank you Mioposto for your thoughtful partnership and we can't wait to see you all there!

@hscadv.808 has posted a fundraiser to financially assist DV advocates who are currently at the front lines of the Maui fire evacuation efforts, some of whom have lost everything to the fires.

100% of donations will go to advocates so that they can meet their basic needs while they also work to support survivors experiencing DV within a natural disaster.

“Domestic violence advocates have a vital role in helping survivors of domestic violence (DV). They may provide access to crisis intervention, safety planning, accompaniment to court hearings, sharing needed resources, emotional support, and so much more. DV advocates are pivotal in a survivor's healing process because of their capacity to support a survivor during some of the most difficult and isolating times in their life.

Please donate any monetary gift and share widely.”

Today we’re shouting out another organization partnering with us our 2nd annual Youth Empowerment Retreat, Youth in Focus! For years Youth in Focus has worked with young people at New Beginnings, including photography workshops for kids at Home Safe housing during the pandemic. They are a nonprofit whose mission is to equip youth to share their ideas and values with the world through photography and art. Youth in Focus will be facilitating a workshop about Art as Social Change and we cannot wait to see how it takes shape. If you haven't registered yet for our retreat, there's still time! Continuing on in highlighting our partners in putting on this year's Youth Empowerment Retreat, today we wanted to talk about another organization Powerful Voices. They are a nonprofit whose mission is to create brave spaces with girls and gender expansive youth of color to take charge of their own power as leaders, ignite their ability to confidently express themselves, build community, and act against injustices affecting their lives. Powerful Voices will be facilitating a workshop about honoring yourself for our retreat attendees and we cannot wait to see how it takes shape! In addition to our Youth Empowerment Retreat the 22nd-24th, Powerful Voices is hosting their own event on the 19th celebrating the release of the third season of their podcast. We are so excited that our 2nd annual Youth Empowerment Retreat is coming up in only two weeks! In honor of our countdown, we wanted to highlight all of the community partners who are working with us to make this retreat possible. We're kicking off the shoutouts with the community venue allowing us to use their space for free, Cathedral Ballard! An event venue dedicated to social activism, Cathedral is the only Seattle venue that reinvests all of their profits back into the community through donations of money as well as free rental of their beautiful 4,000 square foot space. We are so grateful to Cathedral for this partnership and providing a space for our teen participants to create a safer world for us all. If you've been following us this summer, you know that we are so excited for our Youth Empowerment Retreat with workshops from organizations including Powerful Voices, Youth in Focus, and our own Teen Leadership Council.
