Meet with an Advocate
If you would like to meet with an Advocate in person, the first step is to call our 24-hour Helpline. Then, one of our trained Advocates will follow up with you to schedule a meeting as soon as possible. Your Advocate can meet with you wherever is safest and most convenient for you—in a café, library, community center, school or other place that you prefer. Or, you can visit with your Advocate at our office. We welcome people of all genders and sexual orientations! (Se habla español.)
There is no charge for our services, and we tailor our support to meet your needs. Our services are confidential and include:
- Emotional support
- Information about domestic violence and its impact on survivors
- Help with planning for your safety
- Coaching to identify supportive people in your life
- Help with accessing housing and other services
- Support if you have experienced substance abuse—either your own, your partner’s or in your family of origin
- Financial help to overcome barriers to your safety and independence
- Assistance with other individualized needs
Join a Support Group
If you would like to join others who have experienced domestic violence to give and receive support, the first step is to call our 24-hour Helpline. Then, one of our trained Advocates will follow up with you to schedule a meeting as soon as possible to learn more about your needs and sign you up for a support group.
There is no charge for support groups, which are confidential and include:
- Emotional support from group facilitators and participating survivors
- Information about domestic violence and its impact on survivors
- Childcare during support groups
Get Help with Housing
If you want to leave or have already left an abusive relationship and need help to find new housing or stay in your current home, the first step is to call our 24-hour Helpline.
New Beginnings has resources available to help you stay in your home or move to new housing, whichever is safest and best for you.
We can offer flexible funds to help you stay in your safe home or move to new housing by paying for back rent, travel to relocate, move-in costs, utilities or other expenses that might help you get or keep housing.
New Beginnings offers short-term housing for survivors of all genders, individually or with their children, who have left an abusive relationship and are in danger or face other special challenges to finding housing. Residents can receive a variety of supportive services, including:
- emotional support
- safety planning
- help with accessing community resources
- support for children and parenting
- legal advocacy
- mental health therapy
- help with finding and paying for housing.
We can provide referrals to other shelters and community housing resources as well.
Get Help Parenting Help
If you are worried about the impact of abuse on your children or the quality of your relationship with them, the first step is to call our 24-hour Helpline. Then, one of our trained Advocates will follow up with you to schedule a meeting as soon as possible.
There is no charge for our services, which are confidential and include:
- Emotional support
- Information about domestic violence and its impact on children and parenting relationships
- Coaching to help you talk to your children about what they and you have experienced
- Tips for supporting your children in other ways
- Kids Club and other children’s supportive groups
- Help with connecting you and your child to mental health counseling
- Referrals to other community resources
Get Help with Legal Needs
As a survivor you have legal rights and options for protection.
If you need help with getting a protection order, or support with divorce and child custody, immigration, or criminal law cases, the first step is to call our 24-hour Helpline. Then, our Legal Advocate will follow up with you to schedule a meeting as soon as possible.
There is no charge for our services, and we tailor our advocacy to meet your needs. Our services are confidential and include:
- Information about legal protections available to you
- Information about how various legal systems work and what to expect
- Help with filling out forms for protection orders
- Help with planning for your safety if you are going to court or using other legal options
- Access to Family Law and Protection Order Legal Clinics
- Attending court with you as a support person, schedules permitting
- Referrals to attorneys and legal assistance organizations for advice and representation

Get Mental Health Counseling
Once you have met with your New Beginnings Advocate, they can help you access our mental health counseling program if you want to work with a therapist on issues such as understanding the impact of your experience and developing coping skills. Talk to your Advocate about your interest in counseling and our Mental Health Therapist will follow up with you.
There is no charge for our services, and we tailor our counseling to meet your needs. Our services are confidential and include:
- Short-term therapy
- Coping with the Impact of Domestic Violence and other support groups on related topics
- Referrals to community therapists for longer term counseling
